Concert Band
Urbana Middle School currently has three sections of band offered as an elective: 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade band. Each grade level has their own band class that meets regularly during the school day. Students perform at both a winter and spring concert each year. Additionally, 6th grade attends the FCPS band clinic in March and 7th and 8th grade bands attend the FCPS Adjudication festival in April, which serves as one of our benchmarks. Additional performance opportunities include elementary school recruiting trips for 7th grade and a Hershey Park/Music in the Parks adjudicated performance for 8th grade band (optional and held on a Saturday in late spring). Band kids, check out Mrs. Hill's Bitmoji Classroom for resources and links (also posted to our Schoology page). Extracurricular Opportunities
In a typical year, we also offer an auditioned jazz band (established 2009) and a music mentoring program that partners with our band students at Urbana High School. This year (2020-2021) due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the jazz band and mentoring program are currently ON HOLD. Information is provided below on the typical groups.
