Mr. Tom Mitchell teaches Orchestra and Chorus and also gives private cello lessons. He is principal cellist with The Frederick Symphony Orchestra, and has composed several pieces for string orchestra and for his family quartet. Mr. Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Education from Indiana University and a Master of Arts degree from Asbury Theological Seminary.
He and his wife Cathy reside in Ijamsville and have five grown children. When he's not at school Mr. Mitchell loves to read, work outdoors, travel with his wife, collect coins and antiques, and play with his grandchildren. |
Mrs. Emily Hill teaches Band, Jazz Band, and runs the music mentoring program at UMS. She also works with the UHS Mighty Hawk Marching Band! Mrs. Hill is proud to teach in a community that demonstrates strong support for the arts and enjoys watching students excel and exceed their goals. Mrs. HIll earned her Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Frostburg State University and studied clarinet under Dr. Mark Gallagher and conducting under Dr. Philip Klickman. She also earned her Master of Music in Music Education (MMME) from the University of Florida in 2019. She served as the Recording Secretary for the Maryland Music Educators Association from 2012-2020. She has been teaching in Frederick County since 2012.
When she is not teaching, Mrs. Hill enjoys playing clarinet and piano, baking, and reading. She lives in Frederick with her husband Nathan, sons Jamie and Sammy, Arya the corgi, and Penny the cat. |
